Gregor Alexander

About

Gregor Alexander on sax: Born in Austria, his passion is reaching out to the world through jazz, soul, house and disco. He has studied at both the Vienna Conservatory of Music and the Berklee College of Music in Boston. His art has benefited from many renowned teachers including Willi Quarda, Andy Middleton and Sebastian Grimus on sax and Reinhard Wieser on clarinet. He also attended several workshops held by saxophonists of high prestige such as David Liebman, Jerry Bergonzi or Jim Snidero. Gregor splits his time between solo performances, touring with his bands Crazy Heels and The Cosmophonics as well as working as a sideman for the London singer Jawara. Therefore he is a consecutive guest of popular venues like the Metropol, the Wiener Hofburg, the Porgy & Bess jazz club, Casanova and the Eden Bar. In addition to enjoying a musician’s life Gregor also works the board as a sound engineer with SAE degree (and keeps planes from crashing at Schwechat).

“Gregor Alexander grabs my ear and moves my feet with his grooving and authentic saxophone playing, wonderfully blending his background as a jazz saxophonist with his obvious love and respect for R&B, pop and funk. Whether he’s writing tasteful horn section accompaniment or striding as a soloist over strong grooves, Gregor creates a funky and satisfying focal point for the music, bringing a bit of jazz to the pop and a bit of funk to the jazz.”
